Enjoy Learning English!

You want to and possibly need to learn to speak, read and write English as a native American, but if you’re associated with a school and or teacher that’s a native of your country, or some other country, you are not learning, nor will you learn to communicate as a native American.

Case-in-point; just before the COVID pandemic became our way of life, I had to travel to give classes to several students in D.F. (Mexico City). I live in a suburban area, so I had to travel. One day, as I was returning home, and as I was exiting the bus I was on, I don’t remember if I was talking with someone, or… but as I exited the bus, a young Mexican man saw and heard me then asked if I was I (not “are you”) an American, which I answered, “yes!”

I was wondering why he asked, but soon found out.

His English was good, not great, but good. While I was answering him, I could see the confusion in his face, which he verified with me that he was an English teacher – with a teaching certificate (from where was never mentioned), but he couldn’t understand me.

Being conscientious, I started questioning myself – have I started sounding like some of my students? Like some of the people I travel with?

After several seconds of reviewing my current life and conditions, I realized that I was too old to have lost, or my English to have been corrupted… the problem was his – and his schools.

Although I know which school he attended (I will not tell its name, but they won’t hire native Americans – there are a few schools here which won’t hire Americans, British, Canadian, nor Australian teachers) and they are famous here in the Mexico City area. They’re good for teaching “book English”, in other words, if your language now and in the future will fit in what you have learned in a text book, you will graduate from them… thinking your English is as great as all native speakers.

It’s not!

So, one of my questions to you, and for you is, what is YOUR goal? To have a certificate/diploma from a famous school which taught you good, text book English?

Or to have graduated from me, get a certificate (one or more) which tells of your ability to communicate with natives, not just pass tests…

EXAMPLE: Read the paragraph for more information.

You choose.

My classes are for:

Intermediate learners;

Advanced learners;

Expert learners – those who want and or need to communicate freely with natives.
