A word which is common in American English, but not used as much as you may think.

SPUD!
“Would you like some spuds with your hamburger?”
That has a particularly odd ring to it, doesn’t it? ๐คจ
Truth is, I really don’t know the origin of the usage of ‘spud‘ for the use of potato, but I’m not going to a restaurant and ask for a side of French fried spuds!
Now, below is a dictionary definition of spud, and for and instrument used in removing potatoes from the ground – I ‘spose this may be the source of calling the common potato a ‘spud’.
